High Wind Warning & Flood Watch in Effect through Saturday

South Bend, Washington – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Portland has issued a high wind warning which is in effect until 4:00 a.m. Saturday morning. South winds to 45 mph with gusts of 65 to 75 mph are expected along beaches and headlands. Coastal communities can expect south winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to around 60 mph.

The flood watch remains in effect through Saturday morning for portions of Southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon. Heavy rain this week has saturated the ground in many areas and rivers are running high. An additional one to one and one and a half inches of rain are possible along the coast and coast range.

Another storm is expected Sunday evening. For the most up to date weather information from the NWS please visit http://www.weather.gov/portland. This page brings up all advisories, watches, and warnings for the Southwest Washington area.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:

A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on the current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
