Tsunami Safe Haven Project to Present Open House for Long Beach Peninsula Residents

South Bend, Washington – The Tsunami Safe Haven project team (University of Washington, Pacific County Emergency Management Agency, and the Washington State Emergency Management Division) will be holding a conclusion meeting regarding vertical evacuation for the Long Beach Peninsula area on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. at the Peninsula Church Center meeting room, 5000 N Place, in Seaview.

Please consider attending this meeting as it is an excellent opportunity to view and hear the outcome of previous meetings held between February and June 2010 regarding vertical evacuation possibilities for Long Beach, Ocean Park, and Ilwaco/Seaview areas. The results will be presented in an open house style with various thematic stations looking at the following topics: community meeting results, tsunami hazard information, vertical evacuation information, vertical evacuation structure design elements, cost estimates, and walking and evacuation routes.

This meeting will also illustrate where potential vertical evacuation sites could be located in the Long Beach Peninsula area, and will provide an opportunity for all attendees to participate in an interactive environment and learn about tsunami vertical evacuation.

Questions regarding the project or meeting may be forwarded to Jeana Wiser, student of Urban Planning at University of Washington, at wiserjc@gmail.com.
